A University of Kentucky student is out of jail days after she was arrested for allegedly putting her deceased baby in a closet.
According to WLEX, Laken Riley, aged 21, posted a $100,000 bond and is currently at her parents’ house without any surveillance. It was reported that on Saturday, Lexington police discovered her deceased infant in a closet, wrapped in a towel inside a trash bag.
According to the Lexington Herald Leader, Snelling confessed to giving birth before putting cleaning supplies and the infant in the trash bag.
Riley faces charges including abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of a child. She is scheduled to appear in court on September 26.
The Lexington Herald Leader reported that an autopsy was performed on August 29. The infant’s cause of death has not been disclosed.
Hailing from Tennessee, Riley is a senior at the University of Kentucky, where she studies interdisciplinary disability. She is also a member of the college’s STUNT Team, a competitive sport that blends athletic and technical elements of cheerleading. The team began participating in competitions in 2021, following the university’s decision to include it as a varsity sport a year earlier.
