On Monday evening, the Wise County School Board in Virginia convened for the first time since Travis Turner, a football coach at Union High School, vanished amid accusations of child pornography.

During what News 5 described as a “tense” assembly, parents fervently sought further explanations following allegations of Turner’s inappropriate conduct with students.

School Board Chair Larry Greear clarified that public commentary was not allowed during this session, as the focus was on employment matters.

Greear addressed the situation involving Turner, assuring that the school is equipped with resources to support its students.

“Our priority is always the well-being of the children, ensuring their experience remains as normal as possible,” Greear emphasized. “We have counseling services and additional resources readily available at the school.”

Nevertheless, parents expressed dissatisfaction with the scarcity of information provided.

One parent told News 5 that they were “aggravated and concerned” about what appears to be a “lack of communication from the school board.”

Greear said public comment will be available during the next meeting on January 12.

Meanwhile, the search for Tuner continues.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Turner, the former head football coach in Big Stone Gap, left into a wooded area near the residence in Appalachia, on November 20.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a “reward of up to $5,000 for information” that leads to Turner, who is facing five counts of child pornography possession.

Turner has since been removed from the staff member website at the high school.
