The trial of Kouri Richins, a Utah mother accused of murdering her husband, Eric Richins, by allegedly poisoning his Moscow Mule cocktail, continues to unfold.
At 35 years old, Richins is on trial in Summit County, facing multiple charges related to the case. These charges include allegations that, in May 2023, she laced Eric’s drink with an illicit dose of fentanyl, reportedly over five times the lethal threshold.
- Aggravated murder
- Attempted aggravated murder
- Insurance fraud
- Forgery
Richins, a mother to three children, later authored a children’s book titled “Are You with Me?” which tells the story of a father with angelic wings watching over his young son.
Additional allegations against her suggest she previously attempted to poison Eric by contaminating his sandwich on Valentine’s Day 2022.
In defense, her attorneys argue that the method by which Eric consumed the drug remains unclear, pointing out that investigators failed to thoroughly examine the cup that held the drink for potential evidence.
The defense argued that it’s unclear how Eric ingested the drug and that investigators did not thoroughly test the drink’s cup for evidence.
The prosecution stated that Richins, who had been having an affair, had a $4 million debt and killed her husband to gain financial freedom.
Richins has pleaded not guilty. Check back for updates.
