The search for an 11-year-old boy from New York, who has been missing since September, remains ongoing as authorities intensify their efforts.
According to information from WPIX, Jacob Prichett’s mother is currently held at Rikers Island amid the ongoing search for her son. The 50-year-old woman faces a warrant from Brooklyn family court for her failure to present her child, as reported by police sources.
WPIX also reports that the NYPD, along with state police, conducted a search at a landfill near Rochester in hopes of finding Prichett, but came up empty-handed. While it’s uncertain if further searches will take place at this site, there are suggestions that refuse from Brooklyn might be transferred to the High Acres Landfill located in Perinton.
The situation escalated on September 25 when the Administration for Children’s Services carried out a welfare check at Prichett’s Brooklyn residence. Despite a thorough search by case workers, there was no trace of the boy, and his mother allegedly refused to provide a birth certificate.
By October 1, officials from the agency, accompanied by NYPD officers, revisited the apartment but again found no evidence of Prichett’s presence.
During this second visit, a K-9 cadaver dog reportedly picked up the scent of human blood on a refrigerator in the apartment, which was without power. The 50-year-old woman, who initially denied being Prichett’s mother, was subsequently arrested.
According to reports, neighbors said they last saw Prichett — who is autistic and nonverbal — weeks before the welfare check. They also claimed they overheard Preichett’s mother yelling at him before his disappearance.
Prichett’s mother, who has not been publicly named, was initially hospitalized as an emotionally disturbed person.
