Escaped detainee arrested after allegedly attacking Border Force officials

An escaped detainee has been arrested following a two-day-long manhunt for the Tongan man, who allegedly attacked two Border Force officials on Thursday.

Tongan national Paea Teu allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old officer in the neck with a shiv made from nail clippers and assaulted a 36-year-old officer while being transported from Villawood Detention Centre to Sydney Airport.

The 28-year-old man allegedly fled after the attack at 3.40am on Thursday, sparking a manhunt to track him down.

A member of the public called police at 9.40pm yesterday when the man was seen on Eschol Park Drive in Eschol Park.

Teu was arrested shortly after on Ballantrae Drive in St Andrews.

A woman, 24, was also arrested at the scene.

Both were taken to Campbelltown police station.

Teu was charged with causing wounding or grievous bodily harm to another person with intent to murder, as well as wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

The 24-year-old woman has been charged with knowingly harbouring an escaped inmate.

She was granted conditional bail and will appear in Campbelltown court on May 22.

The Border Force agents were treated for their injuries at Westmead Hospital.
