Dating App Date Ends with Arizona Teen Girl Found Dead, 27 Fatal Stabs

A tragic online date spiraled into a cross-country pursuit when authorities uncovered the murder of a teenage girl in Arizona.

Randal Basilio Santillan, 27, was captured in Mississippi after a relentless manhunt spanning several states. He is suspected in the brutal killing of 18-year-old Yessenia Gabriella Norman, according to reports from KTUU.

Law enforcement officials detained Santillan early Friday morning, around 7 a.m., in the city of Biloxi. He is now charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

The case took a grim turn on January 28 when officers in Tolleson, Arizona, found Norman’s lifeless body in an apartment rented by Santillan, situated near 91st Avenue and Interstate 10. FOX 10 reports that the victim had suffered 27 stab wounds.

Investigators revealed that Norman and Santillan initially connected through a dating app, exchanging texts on January 15. Norman left her temporary housing in Phoenix to meet him.

A doorbell camera provided crucial evidence, capturing Norman departing her home that evening with just her purse. Tragically, it was the last time she was seen alive.

Police believe Norman died in the early morning hours of January 16. Her roommate reported her missing on January 19.

Friends and family told investigators that Norman had been excited to begin classes at Glendale Community College later that week, ABC 15 reported.

Authorities utilized license plate reader technology to trace Santillan’s vehicle before locating him in Mississippi.

The arrest was a coordinated effort involving the Tolleson Police Department, the FBI, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Biloxi Police Department. FBI agents monitored Santillan in Biloxi before local officers moved in to make the arrest.

Santillan is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center in Mississippi, awaiting extradition to Arizona to face charges, according to KTUU.
