A 25-year-old elementary school teacher is facing a potential prison sentence of over ten years after admitting to illicit sexual involvement with a student.

Madison Bergmann, who once taught fifth grade at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin, confessed on Monday to charges of child enticement involving sexual contact and sexual misconduct by school staff, according to court documents. She may receive a prison sentence of up to 12 years at her sentencing on Dec. 22.

As part of the deal, the most serious charge of first-degree child sexual assault was dismissed.

Bergmann cried for much of the hearing and as she was led away in handcuffs. She”s currently being held in the St. Croix County Jail without bond.

Law&Crime previously noted that suspicions were raised among the victim’s parents when they noticed their son frequently communicating with Bergmann after he obtained her phone number during a winter ski trip. A search through his phone exposed the improper interactions, as reported by local CBS affiliate WCCO reported.

Documents found in a folder within Bergmann’s backpack allegedly contained notes where the accused teacher expressed to the student that she loved him “more than anyone in the world.”

Bergmann allegedly stated, “One of my cousins is in fifth grade and I can’t imagine a man speaking to her as we do. I acknowledge our special bond, and while I love you more than anyone else, I must be the adult here and put an end to this.”

In one alleged text exchange, the victim said, “Haha bro I just want to make out with you.” The teacher is accused of replying with, “I do too! Like alllll the time.”

Charging documents reportedly said that Bergmann’s notes tell the boy “she loves him, wants to kiss him, he turns her on and that she is obsessed with him.”

The school district reportedly called the Bergmann case “deeply troubling for all of us.”
