New York police said an 89-year-old woman died on Sunday after another nursing home resident attacked her with a wheelchair.
The New York Daily News shared that an 89-year-old woman was involved in a dispute with a 95-year-old resident at the Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brooklyn.
The altercation reportedly resulted in the older woman hitting the victim on the head with a metal piece from a wheelchair, which led to the victim’s death, according to the New York Daily News.
Authorities have not formally identified the victim or the suspect. However, NYam has indicated that the victim is Nina Kracstov. In addition, sources from law enforcement informed WPIX that the suspected attacker is Galina Smirnova, who allegedly suffers from dementia.
Sources told the New York Post that the woman died hours after she was found lying in bed with a head injury.
It remains uncertain if the 95-year-old in question will be charged with a crime. The New York Daily News noted that she is currently undergoing a psychiatric assessment as part of the ongoing investigation.
