A new street gang is allegedly recruiting children to carry out shootings and home invasions on behalf of high-profile feuding gangs in Sydney.
The group, dubbed G7, is allegedly comprised of more than 30 men and teenagers from south-western Sydney who have been responsible for a string of crimes across the city.
“Including public place shootings, malicious woundings, home invasions, stealing motor vehicles, plus firearms offences and drug offences,” Taskforce Falcon Commander Detective Superintendent Jason Box told reporters this afternoon.
Box alleged that the members are committing these offences on behalf of gangs, including the alleged Alameddine crime network, for money.
They have allegedly staged 17 vehicles to be used as part of the broader gangland wars.
Box alleged the group is recruiting children via connections, word of mouth and social media.
Box said no one has died as a result of the G7’s alleged actions, but ”they’ve come close”.
“There was one occasion, there was over 40 shots fired in the two premises, missing the occupants by centimetres,” he said.
“Someone was stabbed as a result of their actions, and that person could have been killed.”
G7 was first uncovered when financial crimes squad detectives began investigating the suspected supply of vehicles to high-profile gangs in January.
The investigation was then escalated under Taskforce Falcon.
Four men arrested as police investigate new gang
This week, detectives arrested four men aged between 18 and 21 for their alleged involvement in the G7.
An 18-year-old man was arrested at a correctional centre on the Mid North Coast on Monday afternoon and charged with seven offences, including participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
He was refused bail to face Campbelltown Local Court on August 27.
Detectives stormed a home in Greystanes and Menai on Wednesday, where they allegedly found almost $30,000 in cash, more than a kilo of cocaine, a single-barrel shotgun, three shotgun shells, six spent rounds, a black magazine with 11 rounds and 14 phones.
Later that same day, they stopped and arrested a 21-year-old Blaze Collins driving in Narellan.
He was charged with participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, possessing a shortened firearm without authority and driving while licence was cancelled.
About the same time, detectives stopped and arrested another 21-year-old man driving in Blacktown.
He was charged with seven offences, including participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and dealing with the property proceeds of crime less than $100,000 and more than $5000.
The pair were refused bail and will face court at a later date.
Yesterday, police issued a fourth man a future court attendance notice and charged him with participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, possessing an unauthorised pistol, never-licensed person driving a vehicle on the road and driving a conveyance taken without the consent of the owner.
He will face the Burwood Local Court on August 12.
Detectives have previously charged nine other G7 members and associates under different investigations.
