A 22-year-old from Michigan is facing allegations of shooting a man who came to his ex-girlfriend’s aid after she noticed him trailing her from a cinema.
Dominic Michael McBride was apprehended over the weekend and charged with counts of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to cause serious harm, and assault with a dangerous weapon, authorities revealed.
The Sumpter Township Police Department reported in a news release that around 11 p.m. on Sunday, officers answered a call about a shooting at a residence located on the 46000 block of Reed Street. This area lies roughly 30 miles to the southwest of Detroit.
When first responders reached the location, they discovered a 40-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds, one in the left side of his upper chest and another grazing his right cheek. The victim was hurried to a local medical facility by Huron Valley Ambulance for care. The police have not disclosed the victim’s identity, but he is recognized as the resident of the Reed Street address.
The event reportedly started earlier that evening at Emagine Theater situated on the 39000 block of Ford Road in Canton Township, Michigan. This theater is nearly 20 miles away from the shooting site.
There, McBride allegedly spotted and made contact with his ex-girlfriend, who was at the theater with another man, neither of whom were identified in the release. McBride reportedly then began following his ex-girlfriend and the other man as they drove away from the theater.
“The suspect followed the two approximately 18 miles to the residence on Reed Street, at which point the victim, whom the couple had called to notify him of what was occurring, exited the residence, telling the suspect to leave,” the release states. “After a brief encounter, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun while seated in his vehicle and shot the victim, who was standing in his yard.”
Following the shooting, police said McBride drove to a nearby area and waited for the police to arrive. He was subsequently taken into custody. Police said the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
McBride appeared in court for his arraignment before Judge Teresa Arlaina Patton, who set his bond at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again for a probable cause hearing on Sept. 24, court records show.
