Developing: College Stunt Team Student’s Baby Found Dead, Stashed Bag in Closet

A former University of Kentucky student’s ex-boyfriend has provided his DNA after her newborn son was reportedly found deceased in a closet last month, as investigators work to uncover the cause of the baby’s death.

Lexington police have allegedly asked Laken Riley’s ex-boyfriend for a DNA sample to verify if he is the father of her deceased child. The young man’s father mentioned to the New York Post that he has not yet been informed of the test results.

On August 27, authorities discovered Snelling’s baby dead inside a closet, wrapped in a towel inside a trash bag. Snelling allegedly admitted to delivering the baby and then placing cleaning supplies and the child in the trash bag.

An autopsy has not confirmed how the baby died, and it is also unclear whether the baby was born alive.

Riley has pleaded not guilty to charges of concealing the birth of a child, tampering with evidence, and corpse abuse, and is currently released on a $100,000 bond.

Snelling, who hails from Tennessee, is a senior at the University of Kentucky, majoring in interdisciplinary disability studies. She is reportedly a member of the university’s STUNT Team, a competitive sport that combines aspects of cheerleading with technical skills, which the college began competing in 2021 one year after it became a varsity sport there.

Reports indicated that Snelling withdrew from the college following her arrest.
