A man from Wisconsin confessed this week to violently throwing his 8-month-old son against a wall, citing frustration over losing a virtual basketball game.
Jalin A. White, aged 22, entered a guilty plea to charges of child abuse and neglect, both resulting in significant bodily harm, as reported by Law&Crime.
The court sentenced White to 12 years behind bars followed by seven years of probation. Additionally, he must participate in various rehabilitation programs after his release and is prohibited from using physical discipline on children.
According to earlier coverage by CrimeOnline, the incident occurred while White was playing the NBA 2K video game. Initially, he offered several conflicting accounts about his son’s injuries, including blaming the child’s mother for accidentally hitting the baby’s head against a door frame.
White initially claimed the infant fell during a diaper change and later said he accidentally dropped the child while gaming. However, investigators eventually uncovered the truth.
The criminal complaint revealed, “The Defendant was trailing by two points in the final quarter of the game and, in a moment of frustration while holding JW, threw him against the wall.”
The baby boy suffered six rib fractures, a skull fracture, and a severe brain injury and was not initially expected to survive. He did recuperate, prosecutors told Law&Crime in an email.
Even after admitting he’d thrown the baby against the wall, White continually refused to say specifically that he did anything, instead saying things like “he hit his head hard against the wall”
