A family of four was jolted awake in the early morning hours in Camberwell by the alarming noise of two men using hammers to break their window and back door.
The father, aged 46, encountered the intruders in the living room, where he reported being threatened with a cricket bat.
Despite his attempts to intervene, the culprits managed to escape with his white Jeep Cherokee.
“The glass, which I believe is double glazed, must have taken at least 15 hits before they broke through, showing their determination,” he remarked regarding the shattered doors.
“They only succeeded when they targeted a different window that gave way more easily,” he added.
“I’m grateful that none of us were harmed—that’s what truly matters,” he reflected.
Three men were caught on security cameras as they cased out half a dozen homes along the quiet street this morning.
They jumped fences and scoped out cars before they decided to target the victims’ home.
Investigators have been back on the street this morning to speak with neighbours.
They were able to track the car via an AirTag but the trail went cold when it was thrown from the vehicle.
