A Florida man attacked his mother and stepfather with a knife after being confronted about cooking a steak that wasn’t meant to be eaten until the following day, according to police.
The situation escalated around 2 a.m. Friday when Fort Lauderdale police received reports of a naked man, bleeding and running around near SW 28th Street and SW 15th Avenue, as detailed in a probable cause arrest affidavit. Officers arrived to find the man, who identified that both he and his wife had been attacked at their residence nearby.
Upon entering the home, officers apprehended the suspect, 34-year-old Jose Monier IV. They found his mother inside, suffering from severe stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital for emergency surgery, having endured multiple cuts and a stab wound to the heart. Her future condition remains uncertain, police reported.
Investigators later talked to the stepfather, who mentioned Monier’s sporadic residency in the home. On the night in question, Monier was cooking a steak. His mother asked him to stop, as the “steak was not to be eaten until the next day,” leading to a heated dispute.
Additionally, Monier was wearing his mother’s headphones and refused to return them. She approached her husband, who suggested ignoring it and contacting the police for Monier’s arrest. He warned her that failing to do so might result in Monier harming her, according to officers’ reports.
While they were speaking, Monier allegedly busted through the bedroom door and began stabbing his mother “unprovoked” with a kitchen knife. The stepdad chucked a glass bottle at Monier, who then turned his sights on him. Monier allegedly cut the victim on the left side of his mouth and tongue. The stepdad ran out of the home for help.
The suspect stands accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault. He’s also facing charges of battery on a police officer for allegedly spitting on a cop. Monier remains in the Broward County Jail without bond.
