Police allege a group of males armed with knives and machetes ambushed two men outside a restaurant on Lygon Street, near Argyle Place in Carlton, just before midnight on December 31.

A 20-year-old man from Heidelberg West and an 18-year-old from New South Wales were urgently transported to the hospital, suffering from severe injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 11.45pm on December 31.

In a collaborative effort, the Gang Crime Squad and Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit conducted raids on several residences on January 13.

As a result of the operation, authorities arrested a 21-year-old man from Fitzroy. He faces charges including violent disorder, intentionally causing serious injury, and affray.

The suspect has been remanded and is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Continuing their investigation, police executed additional raids on January 19, targeting properties in Reservoir, Carlton, and Melbourne.

A 17-year-old male from the Melbourne area has also been charged with violent disorder, intentionally causing injury, and affray.

Two other men – a 19-year-old from Carlton and a 21-year-old from Reservoir – were arrested.

They have since been released pending further enquiries.

Detectives believe the incident was targeted and the groups involved knew each other.
