Thakeng stated about 50 Congress of South African pupils (Cosas) members accompanied the parents to the police station to “make sure that a case has been lodged”. Thakeng stated that “We can assert that parents of a student of a learner of one of the schools at Odendaalsrus who comes up on social media being pushed by a teacher, laid a charge of assault against the teacher. This incident had occurred in a classroom on a Friday, 4th of March 2022, when the 14-year-old was pushed by the teacher.”

Free State Teacher Pushes Student Video Explained
The video has generated an action among residents, with the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) labeling the educator as racist. Cosas members picketed outside the school on Monday in support of the student. Provincial Education MEC Pule Makgoe also disclosed in a statement that the department had introduced a probe into the incident and later suspended the educator.

Makgoe said “At this stage, we do not know all the information pertaining to the incident. The probe once complete, will shed more light on what transpired. The department will, on the strength of the proof at our disposal then be able to make an informed decision on what strict action to take.”
