A group of men reportedly broke into a unit in Maroochydore on April 10, threatening a 27-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman with violence while demanding a large sum of money.

They say five men left the unit before officers arrived and arrested two others who had remained.

The two men apprehended at the scene have been charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty and extortion with the intent to gain benefit through threats.

Last week, detectives travelled to Sydney seeking to extradite the other men alleged to have been involved.

Four men, aged between 27 and 32, were arrested in Sydney’s western suburbs and extradited to Queensland on Friday.

They will face Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

A fifth man will be extradited at a later date due to unrelated medical issues.

Detective Inspector Chris Toohey described the alleged attack as “serious, vicious and premeditated”.

“This investigation outcome should serve as a strong warning criminal behaviour will not be tolerated,” he said.
