Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have taken Tobreis Corney Fields, 37, into custody following accusations of assaulting a woman by allegedly stomping on her arm, resulting in a fracture.

According to a Gainesville Police Department report, the altercation unfolded around 1 p.m. on February 13, when a dispute between Fields and the victim escalated. The victim recounted that Fields initially pushed her, prompting her to push back, inadvertently striking his lip—an area that had previously been injured by a dog, necessitating surgical intervention. The confrontation reportedly intensified until Fields allegedly shoved the woman to the ground. As she attempted to rise, he is accused of stomping on her forearm. Medical personnel later suggested her arm might be fractured, and she was advised to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation. During an interview with the officer, the victim was observed wearing a soft cast and presented a text from Fields, in which he allegedly apologized for the injury.

After being read his Miranda rights, Fields reportedly confirmed much of the victim’s account. He explained that the accidental hit to his lip caused him significant pain and anger. He claimed that after she fell, he tried to prevent her from getting up as the situation became increasingly violent, which somehow led to her injury.

Fields faces charges of aggravated domestic battery. His criminal history includes 13 felony convictions—four of which were violent—and 16 misdemeanor convictions, with eight being violent offenses. He has served four terms in state prison, with the most recent release occurring in 2024. Although a sworn complaint for domestic battery and property damage was filed against him in November 2025, those charges were subsequently dismissed. Judge Tatum Davis has set his bail at $500,000.

Note: Arrest articles are based on information provided by law enforcement agencies. The listed charges are drawn from arrest records and/or court files and represent accusations only. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
