GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, authorities arrested 34-year-old Jamiah Starlett Jamie McClellan after she allegedly threatened a woman and her dog with a knife.
At approximately 2:20 a.m. on January 10, officers from the Gainesville Police Department arrived at an apartment located in the Grove at Sweetwater Preserve. Reports indicated that McClellan had an altercation with the victim, during which she purportedly pulled the victim’s hair before seizing a “butcher’s knife” and making threats against the victim’s dog.
The victim reportedly attempted to exit the apartment, but McClellan allegedly tried to slash her with the knife.
The officer observed minor red marks on the victim’s arms and noted that no knives, other than typical kitchen ones, were visibly out of place. Additionally, dog food was scattered around the apartment.
After being read her rights, McClellan allegedly admitted to arguing with the victim and grabbing her shirt, but she denied having a knife or threatening the dog. She did, however, acknowledge pulling the victim’s hair.
McClellan has been charged with domestic battery and domestic aggravated assault. She has no local criminal convictions; she has two previous arrests for domestic battery, but the charges in both cases were dropped. Judge Donna Keim set bail at $20,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
