Hanna had his first court appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry on September 5, 2025, at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville, Florida. His trial is set for October 29, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., presided over by Chief Judge Allen C. Winsor in Gainesville, Florida.

If convicted, Hanna faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment for each count.

The investigation into this case was carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations alongside the Gainesville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Adam Hapner is prosecuting the case.

An indictment is simply an accusation made by a grand jury asserting that a defendant has breached a federal criminal statute. It does not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is assumed to be innocent until proven guilty, with the government’s responsibility being to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt during a trial.

This legal action is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national effort to tackle the increasing issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Initiated in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, this program is driven by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) of the Criminal Division. It utilizes resources at federal, state, and local levels to efficiently track, arrest, and bring to justice those who exploit children through the Internet and seeks to identify and aid victims.
