Gainesville Woman Arrested After Allegedly Using Vehicle to Hit Man and Two Ducks

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Shalecia Labria Garrison, 33, was taken into custody yesterday, facing charges of intentionally running over a man with her car in July 2024; she is also accused of hitting and killing two ducks in the incident.

On July 2, 2024, the victim reported to a Gainesville Police Department officer that a verbal disagreement arose between him and Garrison because he was standing in the road feeding ducks. The victim claimed Garrison stopped her SUV and warned him to leave the road, threatening to run over him and the ducks if he didn’t comply. He stated that Garrison then sped up her vehicle and struck him as well as two ducks.

The officer reported that the victim’s hand was bandaged and there were two dead ducks in the road.

Garrison allegedly conceded that an argument had taken place between her and the victim from inside her vehicle; she acknowledged hitting the ducks but denied that her car had made contact with the victim.

A warrant for Garrison’s arrest was issued by Judge Denise Ferrero on May 1, charging her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and recommending that she be released on her own recognizance. Garrison has no criminal convictions; she was arrested in 2021 for battery, but the disposition of that case is unavailable on the court records website.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
