Men accused of flying drone over Wollongong to traffic drugs
Two men have been charged today over allegedly smuggling drugs by drone south of Sydney.
Events began about 11.45pm on Tuesday when police were called to a unit complex on Corrimal Street, Wollongong, after two men were reported acting suspiciously.

Law enforcement officials discovered two men, aged 43 and 24, reportedly concealing themselves within the premises. They claimed to be retrieving a drone that had reportedly crashed in the vicinity.

The officers conducted a thorough search, uncovering a damaged drone that allegedly contained a dog waste bag filled with 66 grams of methylamphetamine.

Both individuals were taken into custody, prompting the launch of a formal investigation.

In a related development, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Cliff Road in Wollongong. During the raid, authorities confiscated a baton, an electronic stun device, 42 grams of methylamphetamine, and $4,350 in cash.

Further inspection revealed that the front door of the property had been heavily reinforced with metal and multiple deadbolts for added security.

Officers also found the front door had been modified with metal and several deadbolts to secure the building.

Both men were charged with drug offences and unlawful entry.

Police will allege they were flying the drone to deliver drugs in the area when it crashed.

The men were refused bail when they appeared in court yesterday.

They are scheduled to front court again next month.
