A man from Wisconsin is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to murder his wife, coinciding with the arrival of law enforcement officers. This incident unfolded against the backdrop of their ongoing divorce discussions.

Guy Paider, aged 53, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, as indicated by records from the Ozaukee County jail. The alarming events took place last Friday.

According to a criminal complaint accessed by Milwaukee’s ABC affiliate WISN, Paider’s wife had consulted with a lawyer earlier that day to discuss her divorce proceedings with her husband. Upon returning home, Paider repeatedly pressed her for details about what she wanted in the divorce settlement. She declined to discuss such matters in front of their child, she later told investigators.

After sending their child to their room, the couple was left alone. It was then, according to investigators, that Paider allegedly assaulted his wife.

In a desperate plea, she reportedly screamed, “Call 911,” before being thrown onto the bedroom carpet. She recounted to police that her husband retrieved a gun from a drawer typically used for storing his undergarments.

According to the complaint, Paider told her, “Look at me, look at me, so you can see me when I shoot you.”

Deputies with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office were called at about 3:50 p.m. about the incident. They said Grafton Police Department officers arrived first, announcing their presence as they entered the home.

“A woman was heard calling for help,” according to the sheriff’s office. As officers approached the area from where her screams came, “a male subject fired multiple shots, striking the woman.” The man — later identified as Paider — was arrested and placed in the Ozaukee County Jail, authorities said.

The victim, a 48-year-old woman, “sustained serious injuries” and was ultimately airlifted to a hospital in Milwaukee. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

She was later listed as in stable condition.

Paider was a former West Allis firefighter, according to WISN. West Allis is just west of Milwaukee.
