Authorities in Illinois have launched an investigation into the murder of a rural bar owner, who was discovered deceased at her venue shortly after it opened on Monday morning.

According to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Courtney M. Drysdale was found dead at The Line, a bar located near the border of Illinois and Indiana in Momence.

WLS reported that Drysdale had likely opened the bar solo around 11 a.m., with police arriving at the scene just before noon.

“She was genuinely one of the kindest people. I could always rely on her for anything,” shared Hailey Gershon, a friend and colleague. “She would give everything for someone else and was always there for everyone, even when she was dealing with her own struggles. She put others first, ensuring their happiness.”

Gershon noted that Drysdale had previously worked as a bartender at The Line before taking ownership. She is survived by her fiancé and a young daughter.

The sheriff’s office stated that evidence collected during the initial investigation indicates Drysdale’s death was a homicide, though specific details have not been disclosed.

The Line announced in a post on its Facebook page that it would be closed “until further notice.”
