An Indiana man is facing charges for shooting his girlfriend in the head—right in front of her young daughter—and then alleging to police that she accidentally shot herself during a struggle over his illegally possessed firearm, which he was using to assault her.
Tyairz Glover, aged 20, stands accused of murdering 19-year-old LaNya Anderson, as witnesses—including his own mother—contradicted his version of events, as reported by WXIN.
Glover’s mother showed police a text from another son, who wrote, “He shot her (in) the head.”
Anderson was rushed to a hospital, where she died.
Authorities report the fatal incident occurred during a domestic dispute between the pair. Anderson’s mother, Dionna Sweeney, revealed to the Indianapolis Star that her daughter had called her, and the sounds of an argument were audible in the background. Merely twenty minutes later, Glover phoned her to claim that Anderson had shot herself and had died.
The arrest affidavit details Glover’s narrative, in which he suggests that during their confrontation over the gun, Anderson shot herself. He admitted to being hit with the gun “but not hard,” leading him to throw her onto the bed, strike her in the face, and continue the assault with the pistol. Amid this violence, the firearm allegedly discharged.
The affidavit also notes that Glover’s mother reported her son had consistently made threats of violence toward others, even expressing intentions to harm her.
Jail records indicate Glover faces charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is currently detained without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
