An Indianapolis mother reportedly shot a man she found on top of her daughter, 12, attempting to rape her in a hotel room.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported that on May 24, Bruce Pierce, aged 39, suffered critical injuries from a gunshot wound at the Baymont Inn on Eagle View Drive, as noted by WEAU.
According to reports, Pierce was accompanied by the woman who shot him when her daughter unexpectedly arrived at the hotel with a family companion. Allegedly, the mother briefly left her daughter alone in the hotel room to retrieve some items from her vehicle. Upon returning, she discovered Pierce allegedly attacking her daughter by forcefully attempting to remove the child’s clothing.
Court documents reveal that, in response, the mother shouted at Pierce and fired several shots at him. It is also mentioned that Pierce was armed at the time of the attempted assault.
The mother and daughter left the scene and called 911. They later returned once law enforcement had arrived.
Pierce was taken to the Eskenazi Hospital for treatment, according to WGME.
WGME reports that a warrant has been issued for Pierce’s arrest, who was last seen on Tuesday morning at the Regal 8 Inn on West Washington Street in Indianapolis.
Pierce had prior convictions in 2016 for child molestation. He is listed as a “Sexually Violent Predator,” according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Fox 59, Pierce’s charges are listed as attempted rape, a Level 1 felony; attempted child molestation, a Level 1 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm, a Level 4 felony; and confinement, a Level 5 felony.
