Sean Combs wants out of jail.
The defense attorney proposed that the judge should release the convicted rapper based on time already served. Combs is scheduled for sentencing next week. His legal team contends that the prosecution’s case was built on highly “inflammatory” evidence that wouldn’t have been permissible if Combs had faced charges solely under the Mann Act.
Prosecutors counter that there is no justification for granting Combs a new trial, asserting there are no lawful reasons for the judge to reverse the convictions, and insist Combs should face sentencing on October 3rd.
Should attorneys fail to convince Judge Subramanian he should be acquitted or granted a new trial, Sean Combs will face sentencing on October 3.
Combs could potentially be jailed for more than 20 years if the court adds aggravating factors suggested by the government.
Initially, prosecutors planned to recommend a 4-5 year prison term, but they later suggested pursuing a much longer sentence. In contrast, Combs’ lawyers advocate for a maximum of 14 months, effectively equating to the time served so far.
The defense’s submission for sentencing argues that the music mogul merits a lenient punishment. Combs argues that sentences of 6–12 months per charge accurately represent the crime’s seriousness, considering he has endured 13 months in adverse conditions at the MDC.
Combs points to his violation-free incarceration, newfound sobriety, and the ‘entrepreneurship’ class he started in prison as further justifications for a reduced sentence.
Combs also wants his freedom back as quickly as possible so he can return to supporting his seven children and 84-year-old mother.
