Staff Report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A’breeyon Latrell Wilson, a 21-year-old inmate at the Alachua County Jail, was taken back into custody following an alleged escape from Meridian Behavioral Healthcare on Wednesday.
Wilson had been transferred to Meridian, located at 1541 SW Williston Road, on March 8 after attempting suicide. During the check-in process, he allegedly leaped over the front desk, exited through a window in the reception area, and fled through the main entrance, heading toward the vicinity of Squirrel Ridge Park.
Law enforcement officials apprehended Wilson approximately 40 minutes later, finding him on SW 17th Terrace. They subsequently returned him to the county jail.
Wilson’s initial arrest took place on January 18 while he was a patient in the Behavioral Health Unit at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. He allegedly assaulted a hospital staff member, pushing her into a wall, seizing her badge, and knocking her to the ground. He was detained near the hospital around five hours after the incident.
On February 28, Wilson allegedly spat on a detention deputy at the jail. After being read his rights, Wilson reportedly claimed his actions stemmed from a previous incident where he was pepper-sprayed by a detention officer, expressing a desire to avoid appearing weak. He noted the deputy involved was not part of the earlier confrontation.
Wilson has been charged with battery, battery on a detention officer, and escape from involuntary commitment at a mental health facility. He is listed as homeless on the original arrest report, and he has an unspecified criminal history in Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, and Oklahoma, along with two active out-of-state warrants. Judge Sean Brewer originally set bail at $25,000, Judge Meshon Rawls added $25,000 on the second charge, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones added $40,000 on the escape charge.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
