Jonesville Resident Arrested for Brandishing a Gun and Yelling Aggressively at IQ Fiber Workers on His Property

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 43-year-old man named Drew Thomas Worthmann was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of wielding a gun while “aggressively yelling” at an IQ Fiber crew on his property.

Around 11:50 a.m. on September 16, Worthmann reportedly came home to find an IQ Fiber team busy installing fiber-optic cables on his property. The arrest report notes that the Town of Tioga Director of Development had contracted the company for fiber-optic installations in the neighborhood.

According to reports, Worthmann became confrontational with the entire crew and retreated into his house. Moments later, he reportedly emerged with a handgun and aggressively instructed the workers to vacate his property. The IQ Fiber crew decided to leave and promptly contacted law enforcement.

Witnesses reportedly corroborated the victims’ story.

Post Miranda, Worthmann reportedly said he did not want to speak without a lawyer present.

Worthmann faces two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no prior criminal record. Judge David Kreider has ordered that he be held without bail pending a hearing, based on a motion from the State Attorney’s office requesting detainment without bail until trial. If the judge does not grant the motion, bail will be determined at the hearing.

Articles about arrests rely on information from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed stem from arrest reports and/or court documents and are solely accusations. Every suspect is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
