The Las Vegas hotel associated with Donald Trump is currently facing a wrongful death lawsuit, which claims it bears responsibility for the death of a 78-year-old woman due to a malfunctioning revolving door.
John Truschke, the son of Diana Truschke, initiated legal action in Clark County District Court, Nevada on March 18. Reports indicate the lawsuit claims that on March 21, 2023, when Truschke visited Trump International Hotel, the revolving door accelerated unexpectedly, striking her from behind and projecting her several feet forward onto her face. The filing reportedly describes how Truschke was “ejected” from the door, leading to fatal injuries, asserting that hotel employees were aware, or should have been aware, that the door was defective. Additionally, it is alleged that the hotel failed to adhere to safety regulations.
Las Vegas Fox affiliate KVVU reported that the filing said Truschke was rushed to the hospital and received extensive medical treatment, then later died from unspecified injuries on Oct. 14, 2024. Trump International Hotels is reportedly being accused of negligently maintaining its revolving doors, violating safety codes, and failure to post safety warnings.
Truschke’s family has raised claims of negligence, negligent hiring, training and supervision, and wrongful death. The victim’s survivors seek unspecified damages in excess of $15,000 for loss of comfort and companionship, economic damages, future earnings, costs and expenses incurred, physical pain and injury, emotional pain and general damages, according to reports.
According to court records, the Trump Organization has not yet been served by the plaintiff, and a hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Trump-owned hotels have faced accusations of legal violations for years. From flouting COVID-19 restrictions during the pandemic to illegally dumping thousands of gallons of water into the Chicago River, Trump hotels have a history of being accused of ignoring safety laws.
Law&Crime contacted both the Trump Organization and counsel for the Truschke family for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
