GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nineteen-year-old Tristin Zyler Miller found himself in handcuffs early yesterday, facing charges of aggravated assault after allegedly threatening a woman with a firearm.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, the incident unfolded around 11:24 p.m. on February 19. Miller is accused of striking the woman in the face outside her home at Hidden Village Apartments, located at 2725 SW 27th Avenue. The altercation reportedly began as the woman attempted to stop Miller from attacking her boyfriend.
The victim recounted that Miller, following the initial confrontation, aggressively shouted at her while brandishing a handgun inside her apartment. She vividly recalled the gun’s transparent magazine, providing a detailed description to the authorities.
Miller, however, claimed innocence, insisting he was merely a bystander during the event and did not make any threats or physical contact. He also denied possessing a firearm and chose not to offer any statements after being read his Miranda rights.
The police did not recover the weapon during their initial investigation but suspected it might be inside Miller’s vehicle. At the time of his arrest, officers were in the process of securing a search warrant to inspect the vehicle further.
Miller has been charged with battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal convictions, but he is facing a sworn complaint out of Gilchrist County for aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
