A Los Angeles mother made a disturbing discovery Sunday when she found a dead body in her son’s room, Fox LA reports.

The mom, who has not been identified publicly, noticed a “distinct gas smell” in the home and went into her son’s room, according to the television station.

Inside the room, the mother said she came upon the body of a female wrapped in plastic.

The mother then called authorities, and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were dispatched to the residence around 11:15 a.m., CBS Los Angeles reports.

Officers say the woman wrapped in plastic was pronounced dead at the home, according to KTLA-TV. Authorities have not released the cause of death or shared other details, including how long her body may have been in the room.

There were conflicting reports about the age of the woman found deceased. Some news outlets said the woman was in her 20s, while KABC-TV reported that the woman was 30 years old and identified her as Hannah Rachel Collins.

Reports say the home is in South Los Angeles in the 2200 block of Wall Street near the 10 Freeway, just south of downtown and east of the University of Southern California campus.

Police have launched a homicide investigation and are looking for a possible suspect described as a man in his 20s.

No arrests related to the case have been announced.
