A man aged 49 in Tennessee has been detained following accusations of killing his girlfriend, whose remains were discovered in a burning refrigerator. Authorities revealed that Edward Randolph was apprehended last week and is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of corpse abuse in connection with the death of 47-year-old Hope Parrott.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) released a statement indicating that 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway requested on July 31 that TBI special agents join in investigating the discovery of a deceased woman inside a refrigerator positioned alongside Sunk Cane Road, roughly 100 miles east of Nashville.

Initial investigations reportedly led authorities to identify the victim as Parrott. Together with the TBI, the Overton County Sheriff’s Office explored the circumstances surrounding Parrott’s demise, highlighting that she had been found “discarded and burned” at a roadside, according to prosecutors. Investigations swiftly traced the links to Randolph as the suspect.

“Additional investigation suggested that Parrott’s boyfriend, Edward Randolph, was responsible for her death, and he moved her body in a refrigerator, which he subsequently ignited,” officials mentioned in the announcement. It remains uncertain if authorities have ascertained the specific cause of Parrott’s death.

A spokesperson with the Overton County Sheriff’s Office spoke to McClatchy News and provided additional details surrounding Parrott’s death.

As per the report, the investigation was initiated by a 911 call at 1 a.m. on July 31. The report came from a woman who informed the dispatcher about a fire in proximity to Sunk Cane Road, situated in a rural segment of Overton County. Responding to the scene, authorities reportedly discovered a refrigerator set ablaze at the base of an embankment, visibly accessible from the road.

When investigators opened the fridge, they found human remains. As authorities were in the process of trying to identify the remains, they learned that Parrott’s family had reported her as a missing person on July 5.

Family members reportedly told police they had been unable to get in touch with Parrott for several days, which was not like her. The family also said that Parrott had been trying to leave Randolph.

Randolph was taken into custody and processed at the Overton County Jail. As of Friday morning, he was being held without bond, a jail administrator confirmed to Law&Crime.
