A man from Pennsylvania is facing serious allegations after allegedly stabbing an employee at a Planet Fitness multiple times. The incident occurred after he was prohibited from returning to the gym over an unpaid bill.
The accused, 28-year-old Davier Massey, is confronting a series of charges. These include first-degree criminal attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a weapon, simple assault, making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
Massey is currently held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
According to reports from Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate WPVI, Massey was banned from the Planet Fitness on South Easton Road in Wyncote on Wednesday due to unresolved payment issues. He returned to the gym on Thursday, only to leave again shortly after.
By around 12:30 p.m., Massey returned to the gym in Cheltenham Township, where he is said to have caused a disruption, as detailed by the Cheltenham Township Police Department. An argument with a gym employee allegedly turned violent, resulting in Massey reportedly stabbing the worker multiple times.
Officers arrived at the scene to discover the victim suffering from numerous stab wounds. The injured employee was immediately transported to a nearby trauma center for emergency treatment due to the severity of the injuries, according to police reports.
The victim is reportedly recovering in the hospital.
Massey was located “a short distance away” and arrested. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 16.
“We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location,” Planet Fitness said in a statement provided to the local outlet. “Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. We appreciate local law enforcement’s quick action, and the franchise owner is fully supporting them in their investigation.”
