A chilling incident unfolded in a Washington YMCA parking lot when a man allegedly used his car as a lethal weapon, fatally striking an 88-year-old woman, according to authorities.

Mark Alexander Adams, aged 68, now faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder following the tragic events of February 28, as documented in court records obtained by Law&Crime.

The victim, Shinko Oshino, was identified through a probable cause certification, as reported by Seattle’s ABC affiliate, KOMO. The attack occurred early on a Saturday morning, according to police.

Surveillance footage captured a white Toyota Camry entering the Bellevue Family YMCA in Bellevue around 6:45 a.m., circling the area multiple times before settling into a parking spot. Court documents, as detailed by local CBS affiliate KIRO, describe the driver as “lying in wait for a pedestrian victim.”

Approximately an hour later, Oshino was reportedly making her way through the parking lot when the Camry emerged from its space, heading directly towards her. Investigators allege that the car aligned with her path, accelerated, and struck her.

The impact propelled Oshino over 120 feet before the vehicle braked, causing her to fall to the ground. Shockingly, the car then accelerated once more, running over her without pausing, police reported. Authorities linked the vehicle to Adams, identifying him as the driver during the fatal incident.

Witnesses saw the incident and said the car was driving fast with the woman on its hood, per KOMO. One witness said he thought it was a “fake body” that fell from the hood before being run over.

Police responded to the scene, but Oshino was pronounced dead. Her identification was reportedly found near her body, and YMCA staff helped identify her.

Adams has also been charged with felony hit-and-run, and more charges could be forthcoming, according to regional NBC affiliate KING. That’s because the defendant allegedly continued his attacks that very day, according to law enforcement.

He reportedly drove south to Tacoma, Washington, and hit two more people, fracturing one of their spines.

Adams was arrested on March 1. He is expected to appear in King County court for an arraignment hearing on Monday.

Bellevue lies just east across Lake Washington from Seattle.
