A New York man has been handed a prison sentence exceeding a decade following his conviction for stabbing the mother of his children.

Albaro Chacon, aged 38, was found guilty by a jury on November 19, 2025, on charges including attempted assault, assault, evidence tampering, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. This verdict came after a November 2024 arrest, prompted by a 911 call from the mother of his children. According to a press release from Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, the incident occurred in the home they shared in Brentwood, New York.

Details from the DA reveal the disturbing events of that night over a year ago. The woman awoke to find Chacon standing over her with a knife, as he chillingly declared, “You are going to die here.”

In her desperate struggle, she managed to fend off Chacon, suffering stab wounds to her arms while diverting the knife away from her chest. At the time, her 2-year-old niece was also in the room, prompting her to protect the child as well.

She managed to escape the room and flag down a passing motorist, who then called 911. Outside, she spotted their two children, a 6-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, seated in a car, apparently placed there by Chacon before the attack. As Chacon pursued her outside, their son exited the vehicle, pleading with his father to cease the attack. Chacon then retreated indoors.

While awaiting police arrival, Chacon attempted to clean up the scene. Upon re-entering the house to evade him once more, the woman noticed a strong bleach odor and observed that the bed sheets from where the stabbing occurred had been removed.

Police arrived and placed Chacon under arrest. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Chacon to 15 to 17 years in prison.
