A Texas man allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend early Friday morning before leaving — only to return hours later and batter her again, police say.

John Anthony Etienne, 32, is facing charges of unlawful restraint, assault of a family member by impeding breath, continuous assault on a family member, and retaliation, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were dispatched around 4 a.m. on Friday to the 3700 block of Peak Place after a victim accused Etienne of assaulting her. Police say Etienne allegedly fled the scene before their arrival. Later that morning, the victim called once more, claiming Etienne had returned and assaulted her again. She sustained multiple injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital.

The press release did not specify the means by which Etienne injured the victim, and no further details were provided. Records from El Paso County show he faced comparable charges in 2019, which were later dismissed.

Officers apprehended the suspect on Saturday, bringing him to the El Paso County Jail, where he subsequently posted a $58,500 bond. His upcoming court date remains unlisted.

“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to safeguarding victims of domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable,” stated El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
