Matthew B. Kidd being arrested in Mississippi (Rankin County Sheriff’s Office).
A 35-year-old resident of Mississippi has been sentenced to spend his life in prison for the deliberate murder of two individuals, whom he shot dead in their own homes.
On Tuesday, Judge Dewey Arthur of Rankin County Circuit mandated that Matthew Brian Kidd serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murders of both 31-year-old William Earl Morris and 31-year-old Christian Storey.
The sentence followed Kidd’s admission of guilt to a charge of capital murder in Morris’ case and a charge of plain murder concerning Storey’s death, as shared by authorities.
On the night of August 28, Brandon Police Department responded to a shooting report on Gayden Street, noting that the situation “bore a strong resemblance to the rural shooting,” referring to Morris’ case.
“Collaboration and information exchange led to linking the two homicides,” officials noted. “The Brandon Police Department and Rankin County Sheriff’s Office coordinated efforts and identified Matthew Brian Kidd as the suspect in both incidents.”
A witness who saw Kidd on the news on August 29 contacted 911, reporting that Kidd was seen checking into a Brandon hotel. SWAT teams from the Brandon Police Department and Rankin County Sheriff’s Office went to the hotel, executed a search warrant, and detained Kidd without any issues.
The motive for Storey’s murder reportedly remains unknown to authorities.
