Man charged with murder after woman suffered fatal injuries fleeing alleged abuse

A tragic incident unfolded on April 12 when a 38-year-old woman named Austin was discovered with a critical arm injury at a residence on Randwick Street in Randwick. The situation was dire as the severity of her wound necessitated immediate medical attention.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance swiftly arrived at the scene, providing crucial first aid before Austin was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital. Despite their efforts, her condition remained critical.

Austin, who originally hailed from the UK and worked as a marketing manager, tragically succumbed to her injuries a few days later while in the hospital. Her untimely death prompted an intensive investigation.

To uncover the circumstances surrounding this case, detectives formed Strike Force Lyndoch. Their inquiry led to a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a 44-year-old man at a residence in Little Bay, located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. It was confirmed that the suspect was known to Austin.

The man was taken into custody at Maroubra Police Station, where he now faces serious charges. These include murder under the context of domestic violence and exhibiting abusive behavior towards an intimate partner, specifically coercive control.

Police previously spoke to the man at the unit on the evening of Austin’s injury.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station but later released without charge before being taken to a mental health facility.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said in April that police were taking the investigation incredibly seriously.

“I want the public to be assured that there’s a task force that’s been set up by NSW Police, they’re taking it incredibly seriously, and the focus will be justice for that woman and her family,” he said.
