A man from Illinois, aged 32, is set to spend many years in prison for viciously stabbing his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter after losing his temper due to her stomping around the home.

Demetrius Fisher received a 27-year prison sentence after admitting to attempted first-degree murder, as reported by the Lake County State Attorney’s Office. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department responded to a stabbing incident on February 15, 2024, at a residence located on the 3800 block of North Manor Avenue in Beach Park, approximately 50 miles from Chicago.

Authorities reported that the girl’s mother was alerted by her school about her absence. Upon returning home, she saw Fisher exiting the house. Upon noticing her, he fled the scene. Inside, she discovered her daughter with numerous stab wounds, and paramedics promptly transported her to a hospital.

Fisher hopped on a bus and was at a train station when cops arrested him.

After being informed of his rights, Fisher admitted that the girl’s stomping led him to lose control, according to prosecutors who spoke with the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. He confessed to taking a kitchen knife and wearing an oven mitt to avoid injuring himself while attacking her. After striking her down, he proceeded to inflict multiple stab wounds.

Fisher reportedly expressed shock that the girl was still alive.

“Did you see her neck?” he reportedly said.

Fisher will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence and will be on probation for three years post-release. Additionally, he will have to register as a violent offender against youth.

“The protection and welfare of every child are of utmost importance. Our Special Victims Unit, which includes prosecutors, victim advocates, and mental health specialists, has been dedicated to achieving justice for the victim,” noted Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart. “We also express our gratitude to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and thorough investigation. This offender is now held accountable and will be away from our community for many years.”
