Manhunt Ends with 18-Year-Old Son Arrested for Killing Mother, Injuring Father: Police

A tragic shooting on Friday rocked a rural Pennsylvania community, resulting in the death of a mother, injuries to her husband, and a manhunt for their son that concluded in West Virginia.

Authorities from the Pennsylvania State Police responded to a call just before 2 p.m. on Friday, following reports of a shooting at a home on Garrison Ridge Road in New Freeport, as highlighted by CBS News.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a couple outside their home, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The couple’s younger children were found safely inside the residence, while their oldest child, 18-year-old Jared Noll, was identified as the alleged shooter and had already fled the scene.

The wounded couple was swiftly transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Sadly, the mother did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, as reported by WDTV. The father, after receiving medical treatment, has since been discharged.

The younger children, unharmed by the incident, are now under the care of a family member, according to information provided by WDTV.

The unharmed children have been placed in the care of a family member, according to WDTV.

Following the incident, Noll fled the property on foot, disappearing into the dense forest surrounding Garrison Ridge Road, according to CBS News.

Thick woods and poor cellular service in the New Freeport area hampered communication between search teams throughout Friday night and Saturday.

“We used tracking dogs, we used helicopters, and we used police on foot searching rough terrain,” Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer

As the search continued, authorities warned the public that the suspect is considered a significant danger, as he is wanted for homicide and is believed to be still armed with a firearm.

“Obviously, when you have someone on the run with a homicide warrant, on the run with a gun, it is a huge danger to the community.”

Police apprehended Noll and took him into custody after a tip led to someone matching his description on foot, just across the Pennsylvania state line in West Virginia, late Saturday afternoon.

According to the police, Noll was armed at the time of his arrest.

Noll will be extradited to Pennsylvania and faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide.
