Marshalls Customer Buys Knives, Stabs Other Shopper for Taking Too Long in Checkout Line

A disagreement over a checkout line escalated into violence at a Marshalls store on Saturday, resulting in a woman being stabbed, New Jersey authorities report.

Upon arriving at the scene in Kearny, police discovered the injured woman in the store’s parking lot, suffering from superficial wounds. The Observer noted that officers later found the alleged assailant, Amber Thompson, 25, hiding in the store’s bathroom, where a kitchen knife was found atop a baby changing station.

Investigators revealed that the altercation began over the pace of the checkout process. Thompson reportedly threatened the victim outside the store. As the victim and her family made their way to their car, Thompson allegedly bought a set of knives, removed one from its packaging, and pursued the victim, according to The Observer.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds to her torso. Following the incident, Thompson is believed to have retreated back into the Marshalls store, as reported by NJ 101.5.

Thompson now faces charges including aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering another person. She remains in custody awaiting her court appearance.
