Maryland Father Charged With Murder in Death of 4-Month-Old Son

A Maryland man faces charges of murder and child abuse following the tragic death of his 4-month-old son on Saturday.

Khalil Brooks-Clarke reportedly dialed 911 shortly before 1 a.m. after allegedly assaulting the infant. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the baby, Kairo Brooks, unresponsive, as confirmed by the Prince George’s County Police Department. Kairo was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed that the infant succumbed to blunt force trauma.

Court documents indicate that Brooks-Clarke had been the sole caregiver for the child, with the mother incarcerated for the past three weeks, as reported by WJLA.

The documents further disclose that detectives spoke with the child’s mother, who mentioned that Brooks-Clarke would become agitated when the baby cried. In his frustration, he allegedly recorded videos of himself shaking the child when the crying wouldn’t cease.

“Tragically, in many situations like this, intervention by police or other services often comes too late,” stated police chief George Nader. “Infants and children, such as Kairo, are among the most vulnerable in our community and depend entirely on others for their safety and care.”

Following consultations with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, Brooks-Clarke was charged and is currently held by the Department of Corrections pending a bond review hearing.

Brooks-Clark has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree child abuse, and additional related charges.
