Exclusive vision obtained by 9News shows an alleged motorcycle gang turning some of Melbourne’s major roads, including City Link, into illegal speedways.
Police allege the group used products on their boots to throw sparks onto the road, obstructing other motorists.
They also allegedly covered their number plates to avoid tolls and detection.Â
Senior Constable Adam Mizzi said police have a zero-tolerance approach to the behaviour.
“One wrong move, or one car not seeing them, could be catastrophic,” he said.
Police have disbanded the group, making several arrests and laying a string of charges.
A 24-year-old Caroline Springs man dodged cameras when approached by 9News, while a second man refused to answer questions by responding “no comment”.
“IÂ don’t feel safe being recorded,” he said.
At least 38 people have died in motorcycle accidents on Victoria roads this year, with a further 495 riders seriously injured.
Greensborough highway patrol is cracking down on dangerous riding one speedster at a time.Â
Mizzi said he does not want to attend the homes of families to tell them their loved one has been killed or seriously injured.
“All just for a couple just for a couple of extra likes on Instagram,” he said.
Despite the arrests, the group continues to post videos online.
But Mizzi said breaking the rules will likely catch up to them.
“It could be six months down the track, but we will be knocking on your door,” he said.
