In an undercover operation conducted by Florida detectives, a doctor from a family practice in Michigan was arrested and charged for attempting to initiate a sexual relationship with a 5-year-old girl.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, William Murdoch communicated disturbing messages with an undercover officer posing as a mother, outlining his intentions to groom the child and escalate the situation into something sexual.
The investigation began in June, police said.
The police stated that Murdoch sought a friendly relationship with this pretend mother to see if she would permit her child to be romantically involved with him in a sexual context.
The police further reported that Murdoch described his twisted actions, which were too graphic to disclose fully, but included various forms of sexual conduct.
Evidence from Murdoch’s iCloud and messages showed additional discussions involving impregnation, abortions, and the deliberate use of substances to cause birth defects.
A warrant for Murdoch’s arrest was issued by Florida authorities, leading to his apprehension in Michigan by US Marshals. He is currently awaiting transfer to Florida to face charges for soliciting a parent’s consent for a child to be involved in sexual activities.
Murdoch worked for the ProMedica Health System in Monroe, according to WXYZ. ProMedica confirmed Murdoch’s arrest in a statement.
“This arrest triggered an immediate suspension of Dr. Murdoch’s hospital privileges and a termination of all activity involving the physician,” the company said. “We are supporting investigation efforts in this case. Our priority is the safety and care of our patients and their families.”
