Landfill Search Underway for Missing Teen Who Is Possibly Being Held Against His Will

A Minnesota man whose 16-year-old son was found dead last month was charged with his murder on Wednesday.

As per KSTP, a preliminary autopsy report — which identified Jordan Collins Jr.’s death as a homicide — also suggested that he may have been decapitated with a knife. The teenager disappeared on May 8 while visiting Columbia Heights with his father, Jordan Collins Sr., 38, who is suspected of killing him and disposing of his body in a dumpster.

Collins Sr. was taken into custody on Monday, over a week after his son’s body was located at the Elk River Landfill. Surveillance footage from May 13 — five days following his disappearance — indicated that his body was placed in a Columbia Heights dumpster prior to being collected by a garbage truck.

Just three days post Collins Jr.’s departure, law enforcement reportedly searched his father’s residence and found an array of butcher and hunting knives in a bedroom closet. They also identified possible blood in trash cans, along with carpet and a mattress that had sections removed, as stated by KSTP.

Blood found on items recovered from the home allegedly matched Collins Jr.’s DNA, leading police to conduct another search at the residence. This time, police found blood on a bedroom wall which also belonged to Collins Jr., KSTP reported.

Collins Sr. claimed he last saw his son on May 10. Phone data indicated he called his son for 20 seconds on May 13, a day after police informed him of his disappearance.

Collins Sr. is charged with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $2 million with conditions, including surrendering his passport and being prohibited from leaving the state. Without conditions, his bail is set at $3 million.
