California authorities are looking for an 8-month-old girl and her mother who have been missing for more than a week.
Whisper Owen, 36, and Sandra McCarthy were last seen departing Fresno on July 15. According to SF Gate, Fresno County police suspect they were on their way to their home in Elk Grove but did not reach their destination.
Owen’s mother informed KFSN that Owen took her daughter to a medical appointment and visited relatives. She stated Owen and her granddaughter left to join her partner and two other children.
“It wasn’t until Saturday morning that he [Owen’s partner] contacted us, inquired if she was with us, and wished to speak to her. At that moment, we informed him she had departed Tuesday night,” Owen’s brother, who reported them missing, shared with KFSN.
Owen’s mother said it was normal not to hear from her daughter for a few days as she did not have a working phone.
Fresno police said current evidence does not suggest foul play is involved in Owen and McCarthy’s disappearance.
Owen drives a 2006 silver Chevrolet Trailblazer with license plates reading 9LKH008. The vehicle has damage to driver’s side headlight.
Owen was described as standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes. McCarthy is 1 foot, 10 inches tall, weighs 17 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.
Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call 911.
