The mother of a 10-year-old boy she reported missing last week has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Felicia Gross, 33, also faces charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and falsely reporting an incident, WDRB reported.
Gross reported her son, Jayden Spicer, missing on August 6, stating that the boy had vanished after she and her husband went to bed the previous night, according to CrimeOnline. That morning, she appeared tearful at a neighbor’s house, asking to borrow a phone to contact the police.
A day later, she provided a handwritten message to media asking anyone with information to come forward.
A comprehensive search involving drones, dogs, and personnel was launched, and on Wednesday afternoon, the boy’s body was discovered 19 miles from his residence. Police indicated they had “received new information” prompting them to search a “heavily wooded area” along Canoe Road in Jackson.
Spicer’s body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office while Gross was booked into the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
