A Georgia woman was criminally charged for allegedly leaving her newborn baby in a trash bag on Monday.
Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, allegedly arrived at a Macon hospital due to severe bleeding after leaving a trash bag on her back porch. Her boyfriend, who had driven her to the hospital, went back to their home and heard noises coming from the trash bag on the porch. Upon inspection, he found a baby boy wrapped in towels inside, as reported by WSB-TV.
It is believed that Rappuhn gave birth approximately nine hours before seeking medical attention. According to WMGT, Rappuhn did not inform her boyfriend or the hospital staff about her pregnancy.
The baby boy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
After being discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, Rappuhn was taken into custody on charges that include attempted felony murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. She is currently held in jail without the option of bail.
