Mom Steamed Infant Daughter’s Face Until Her Skin Peeled Off Because She Wasn’t a Boy

An Ohio woman was jailed on Wednesday for allegedly abusing her 4-month-old daughter on multiple occasions.

The Division of Child and Family Services informed Unified police on Tuesday after Lizbeth Hurtado-Breton’s infant daughter was reportedly hospitalized with multiple injuries, including severe facial burns, several bone fractures, and a brain bleed. Although the baby’s father mentioned that Hurtado-Breton, 36, was holding their daughter’s face over steam as a home remedy, he also described several incidents involving Hurtado-Breton that police categorized as abuse, according to KSL.

The father reported witnessing Hurtado-Breton steaming their daughter’s face before she wiped it with a napkin, removing her skin. Hurtado-Breton allegedly told officers she was using a humidifier for her daughter’s congestion, but police later confirmed it was a cooking pot.

“Lizbeth said her hands were feeling ‘very hot’ while doing this, but she didn’t consider how the steam would feel on (the girl’s) face,” police wrote, according to KSL.

The baby’s father reportedly also remembered a previous occasion when he returned from work and asked Hurtado-Breton why there was tape on the infant’s mouth. Hurtado-Breton claimed it was because she kept crying, according to KSL.

The father is also said to have recounted another situation in which his daughter’s arms were taped behind her back to force her to eat. Police reported that the father provided video and photos of their daughter’s taped mouth and Hurtado-Breton force feeding their baby.

Hurtado-Breton allegedly informed police that her daughter was frequently fussy and refused to eat, leading her to use medical tape to keep her pacifier in place. Meanwhile, the baby’s father believed Hurtado-Breton’s harsh treatment toward the 4-month-old, unlike her siblings, was because she wanted a boy.

Hurtado-Brown, a Mexican citizen, was charged with child torture and two counts of aggravated child abuse. Jail records do not include bond information.
